PAGE TWOTHE MEXIA EVENING NEWSWednesday, April'19“Mexia” For April A Real Power In Helping Build A Greater CiThis month’s issue of “Mexia,” the monthly published by the Mexia Chamber of Commerce and ably edited by Manager Dewitt Lamb, is superior to any of the three that have preceded it.This illustrated magazine is doing a great service for the city and many business men are now here, having been attracted because of the power pulling publicity included in this publication. The following are taken from the April issue:In order to establish our claims that Mexia is really the distributing point in Central East Texas for all oil field equipment and supplies for development work, we enumerate below the names of twenty-one firms specializing in this character of heavy material.Last month we showed just what the lumber and building industry meant to Mexia by giving detailed information and named the twenty-seven firms here in Mexia. The figures below do not take any account of the tank companies doing business here. We are indebted to the management of the twenty-one firms named below for .their co-operation in giving reliable figures. There are 143 people employed in the city of Mexia at present handling the business of these supply houses. The amount placed correctly by the managers . of the institutions, in monthly payrolls is $40,235.These twenty-one supply firms have made an investment in the city, aside from the million dollars in stock carried, of approximately $280,925.Each month these firms have sold approximately $2,732,000 worth of material, and for a period of four months, this has been a consei’vative monthly average. The firm name, location, when established, postal address and manager’s name, with other information, ■will be found worth while in the list below:O. N. Jaye Company; Sumpter street at H. T. C. tracks; O. N. Jaye, local manager; P. O. The Evening News is pleased to publish herewith some production statistics for the Mexia field that should be of interest to the general public in a large measure, and of particular inteerst to those especially concerned in the actual development of the oil resources of this great district.Up to April 10 there were 305 producing wells in the Mexia field, with an average production of 330 barrels daily in all. Of this production, the Humphreys daily production totaled 47,763, and the other companies operating in the field 05,287 barrels. The average production of the Humphreys wells per day, as of equal date was 443 barrels, or approximately 50 per cent above the average of the field. While the showing above is very creditable, it is but fair to say that the recent unprecedented rains caused the closing of numerous water plants, and practically eliminated successful field work for a period of half a month. As of April 1 the field was making approximately 150,000 bai*rels and now that water plants are again in operation and field forces at work, the production trend is again slowly hut surely upward, with enough successful completions in sight to hasten a return of larger daily 1’ecovery.Total production of lgiht crude from this field to April 10 had reached 21,-468,522 barrels. Of this grand total the Humphreys Company produced 6,043,926 barrels and all the other companies 15,414,596 barrels. It is interesting to note The Humphreys interests now have 100 producing wells and 75 drilling wells in the main field. This does not include present or prospective wells in the Currie district or the 9 structures being tested out in East Texas counties. As an interesting side light on the magnitude of operations in this field, it is stated that the Humphreys pay roll for labor alone is over $200,000 monthly, which figure does not include the labor employed on rotary rigs, these being contract jobs. Perhaps a million a month is a low estimate for the expenditure of this company on labor, supplies and development in the Mexia field-During recent weeks numerous wells in the field have been placed on the pump. This is due, according to authentic information, to the fact that gas pressure in the field is declining.MEXIA BASEBALL CLUB ORGANIZEDJesse McLendon, president; Rex Forrest, vice-president; R. B. Chemical analysis of Mexia’s water shows that it is free from contamination after it has been treated to this modern method of removing germ bacteria.Should the proposed hond issue carry in which the city takes over the water works, a settling basin, and filtration plant will be added in addition to the chlorinating treatment.LIMESTONE MEDICOS REVISE ORGANIZATION The Limestone County Medical Association has been revived and a schedule of regular meetings of the county group will take place hereafter each month, according to Dr. R. Munger on South McKinney street, for a consideration popularly believed to be $40,000.Since December, 1921, Mr. Hughes has purchased local property amounting to several hundred thousand dollars and included in these properties may he noted the $100,000 Majestic Hotel, a $100,000 theatre building, the largest brick automobile building in the city, another two-story brick business building.Mr. Hughes has made good on his offer to match any other donor up to $20,000 on the new $85,000 First Baptist church, and last week offered to subscribe up to $20,000 proposed building and loan fund for constructing new homes in the city.ordinance just passed in having all citizens install fly proof closets on their premesis where sewerage connections are not available. The Chamber is having these closets built in quantities and is selling them to the citizens at cost. Orders are now being taken by the manager and contracts are being let in lots of 50. In this way the Chamber is seeing to it that property owners arej not compelled to pay nmigh price for) the construction of a sanitary, fly proof closet, as might he the case where only one or two were contracted at a time. The sanitary department of the city has sponsored the law and the city attorney has drafted an ordinance thoroughly taking care of the specifications as to just how they should be built and installed. A working model has been on exhibition at the city hall for several clays and numerous carpenters and contractors have been figuring on the lowest possible figure at which theyFLY PROOF CLOSETS BEING BUILT BY CITIZENS AT SAYING BY BUSINESS MENArrangements have been completed by the Chamber of Commerce tocarry out the provisions of the cityDon’t Be Without ASANITARYTOILETStandard Steel Corporation's Odorless, Waterless Indoor Toilets; require no Plumbing or sewer connections.C. Plans have been worked out whereby the city will deliver 'quantities of ten or^ more to any certain street or section of the city free to the owner.Property owners will be responsible for the proper installation _ of these closets, as well as providing accessibility to the scavenger so that they can be cleaned regularly. All closets must be located on or as near as possible to an alley and a gate provided where fences enelose the yards so that the sanitary depart-jment can have ready access to the closet in doing its work.Needless to say that one of the greatest steps toward cleaning up j the town and eliminating the typhoid fly has been inaugurated in this sanitary measure. The same model of fly proof closet now being built by the Chamber of Commerce was used in residential sections near the Fort Worth and other cities, and army camps in Waco, San Antonio, included in the ordinance being published.
