STEAMER TITANIC, WITH 2,160PEOPLE, SINKS IN MID-OCEAN.Captain Sends Wireless — Virginian Hastens to Rescue.Montreal, Canada.—The White Star liner. Titanic, with 2,100 persons on board struck an iceberg and sank J,2S4 miles east of Sandy Hook.The first “C. Q. D.” call was picked up off the coast of Nova Scotia by the Virginian, and that vessel started at full speed to the rescue. The Virginian has accommodations for only about 900 persons at the most, and should other assistance not be rushed immediately it is feared that hundreds will be lost in the sea.The last message received here by wireless said the giant vessel was going down rapidly, and that the women and children are being taken off In lifeboats.
