Wednesday, April 29. at Father Kelley Hall, St. Therese’s Catholic Church, 4th Street and 25th Avenue.Sister Carol Rittner, RSM, will bethe speaker for this program, titled “Different Voices - Women and the Holocaust.”Sister Rittner is the president of Mercyworks, an international consulting and educational network of the Sisters of Mercy, USA. Previously, she was the director of the Elie Wie-sel Foundation for Humanity, New York, NY, from 1986 to 1990. For nearly 20 years, her interdisciplinary teaching and research have focused on Christian-Jewish relations and on the Holocaust. In addition, she has been involved in the human lights issue in the United States andabroad.In 1984, with the support of Professor Elie Wiesel and under the sponsorship of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, Washington, D C., Sister Rittner organized an international conference on the role of non Jews who rescued and protected Jews during the Holocaust. In addition to the conference. Sister Rittner and Sondra Myers initiated the production of a national public radio series, “Stories for the Days of Remembrance,” and a film, “The Courage to Care,” nominated for a1986 Academy Award in the short documentary category. Sister Rittner subsequently wrote a “Viewer’s Guide” for the film and co edited a book with the same title as the film, “The Courage to Care: Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust”As the director of the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, Sister Rittner organized several international seminars and conferences in the United States, Europe and Israel for “The Anatomy of Hate” project. She directed the foundation’s na tional Elie Wiesel prize in ethics essay contest for undergraduate senior students.
