A Remarkable MeteorVarious residents of Atherton were startled at about 12.15 lt;»n Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning) by the apparition of a remarkable meteor, which shot across the sky leaving a trail of vivid white fire, and disappeared below the western horizon. In spite of the bright moonlight ihe meteor, which to the naked eye appeared to be the same size as the moon, lit up the landscape for a few seconds with a brilliance which dimmed the lunar illumination, as it took a zig-zag course across the heavens. Doubtless, had ;t been a dark night, the appearance might have caused quite a sensation among those fortunate enough to witness it. and certainly lends color to recently published theory that the earth is due to pass through a belt of meteorites.— Our Atherton correspondent.
