ORPHAN ASYLUM OF ANNAPOLIS, The uninterrupted prosperity of this Institution, claims, from its friends, patrons and managers, a re turn of devout thankfulness to Him whose mercies are over all his works. The proceeds of the recent Fair, notwithstanding the pressure of the times, exhibit conclusive proof that the Orphan Asylum is regarded with undimin ished favor by our community. ‘The amount real ized on that occasion is $565.00, being a larger sum than was obtained at several Fairs previous to the year 1837. During the past year, the managers have procur ed a situation for Susan Adams, and it is understood that she gives satisfaction. Then Duvall left the Asylum, and is now with her uncle, to whom she will be shortly bound. Rebecca Burgess and Sarah Pophan, from the neighborhood of South and West rivers, have been received int o the institution. ‘The whole number of orphans at present, is six. In the month of September, 1859, Mrs. Welch resigned the place as Matron, when Mrs. Mead was chosen to succeed her. Mrs. Mead receives $60 per annum for each of the children, which was the compensation given to Mrs. Welch for the three years and six months preceding her resignation. A house has been purchased for $800, as a per manent location for the Asylum; $3,200 invested in city stock in Baltimore. ‘The house is rented to the Matron at the rate $50 per annum. ‘The children are all in good health and apparent ly improving in every respect. The permanent fund of the Asylum has been gradually increasing, but the revenue which it wields, is not yet by any means sufficient to greet the necessary expenses. Fairs, which have hitherto afforded the means of support to the Institution, must therefore, be stl relied on by the managers for that purpose. By the death of the late’ Samuel Ridout, Esq, the Orphan Asylum has Jost a member of its board of Trosters, and one of its most active and efficient friends. ‘I'll dwell upon the character of an indivi dual so Snowdatal amolget us for every virtue would be a work of pure supererogation.
