1991Oak Forest Hospital VolunteersWho donates thousands of hours of personal time in return for a “Thank You” or smile? Oak Forest Hospital volunteers! These caring people brighten the lives of patients and the Oak Forest Hospital community by dedicating time, ability, enthusiasm and love. Oak Forest Hospital will join many communities around the country in observing national Volunteer Week, April21-27, 1991.The week’s activities will recognize the contributions of local citizens, who are active in volunteering and will encourage everyone to become involved as volunteers in their community.According to Jennifer Link, Director of Volunteer Services at Oak Forest Hospital, over 745 volunteers donated 48,025 hours of service to the Health Care Center during 1990. They served in a variety of ways, from acting as friendly visitors, to Therapeutic Recreation Assistants to shoppers. Their abilities and talents have been utilized by hospital departments to complete important projects and tasks. Oak Forest Hospital volunteers range from teens to senior citizens.On April 26, these special friends will be honored for their commitment as Oak Forest Hospital hosts its 36th Annual Volunteer Luncheon Recognition Program. This recognition of volunteers is intended to encourage citizens to renew their own commitments to improving the quality of life through volunteer service. Volunteers who were active during 1990 will be honored at the event.One dedicated individual, Helen Heitman of Midlothian will be honored for giving over 9,000 hours of service in 31 years at Oak Forest Hospital.Essie Anderson of Midlothian and Frank Jeffers of Posen, will be honored for 6,000 hours of service at Oak Forest Hospital. Mary Barclay of Tinley Park, with the American Legion Auxiliary and John Ducci of Chicago, will receive recognition for 5,000 hours of service. John Heersema of Lansing will be honored for his 30 years of religious service and Raphael Emery of Chicago, active in the Light Bearers Association, will receive a service award , -for 35 years of service. Four additional volunteers will receive 20 year service awards. Another twenty-four individuals will receive service awards for 5, 10 and 15 vears of service.
