Columbia Nife Unit Meets At Brass RailThe Columbia Rural Nite Unit ofthe Monroe County Home Bureaumet at the Brass Rail on April 1.A seven o’clock supper was served in honor of their birthday month. Twenty-four members and one guest were present.The meeting w*as opened by the chariman, Esther Mueller ,and the answer to roll call was “Funny Hats”. There were several out-standnig hats, with the judges, Anna Harres and Anna Gotway, selecting Alma Horcher as the winner.The March major lesson was given by Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman, home adviser, on “The Selection and Use of Dinnerware, Glass and Flat Ware”. She displayed china from French Haviland, English Bone, Spade and Fragile Japanese. Her table settings were in many diverse color combinations.She also gave the minor lesson, explaining the steps in making handmade, tailored, piped and looped buttonholes.Mrs. Arthur Kolmer gave the report from the board. Awards of pillowslips were made.Entertainment followed the meeting and with Ralph Edwards unable to be present, Edna Sander was the master of ceremonies for ‘This Is Your Life” for Marie Wienhoff. The evening closed with the serving of birthday cake and ice cream. The cake was baked by Florence Giffhorn.The next meeting will be held at the home of Esther Mueller, on May 1. It will start at 8:00 o’clock because of daylight saving time.
