(Special) The Carr Lumber company, located at Pisgah Forest, hail mors than lOt) men on its payroll today. resuming operations of its large plant in this county aft t having been practically closed for over a year.Announcement, is made by VV. W, Croushorn, secretary and general manager of the large hardwood manufacturing concern that a complete force of workm .*n has already been recruited, using local labor entirely, several -mailer crews having been at work several weeks getting the plan', yards and rolling slock in condition.The Carr Lumber company has been in operation here for twenty years, during which time more than two hundred million feet of high grade hardwood lumber has been manufactured and shipped to all parts of the country.Operating on the famous Biit-more Estate, which is now a part of the Pisgah National Forest, the company takes the choicest of timbers from a fid.OOP acre boundary covered by their contract made with the late Geo. W. Vanderbilt prior to establishment of the national forest. The timber is hauled to he plant at Pisgah For. est over a network of trails connecting w-th the company-owned railroad, then to Etowah where connection is made with the Southern.One of the principal products of the output of the Pisgah Forest plant is the Biltmore Hardwood flooring, in which fine oak and maple is used. Other lumbers such as poplar, oak and chestnut is also put on the market from the plant.In announcing resumption of operations Mr. Croushorn would make no statement in regard to general business conditions and future prospects of the lumber business, other than to slate I hatthere is some improvement in our line, sufficient to warrant putting our force of men hack on the job. with hopes that conditions will continue to improve and enable us to continue operationsLouis Carr, of Brevard ami New Mexico, heads the Carr Lumber company: .Joseph Keys, of Washington. D. C.. vice-president, with W. W. Croushorn as secret;tr-trcasurer and general manager of the Transylvania plant.Workers employed in tl»*% plant for the most part are natives of this county and own their own homes in the immediate Pisgah Forest and Brevard section.
