Thomas A. Lenas to Be De livered On Board War Ves sel At, New Orleans. In compliance with instructions re ceived by the Wednesday afternoon, Thomas Andrew Lenas, Jr., the young man who surrendered to the police Tuesday night, stating that he was a deserter from the United States battle ship Pennsylvania, will be taken to New Orleans Thursday afternoon in charge of Detective Joseph Lacey. The following telegram was received at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon by Chief Crenshaw, Washington, D. GC. 4-1613.. F. W. Crenshaw, Chief of Police, Mobile, Ala, Deliver Thomas A. Lenas aboard Amphitrite at New Orleans. Fifty dol lars forwarded you by Des Moines ‘upon arrival New Orleans within next few days, includes reward and all ex penses. Blue eyes, scar right knee, back neck, mole forehead. Civil offi cer responsible deserter’s identity. VICTOR BLUE, According to the statement made by Lenas to the police authorities, he en listed in the navy in March, 1910, and after seven months in the service, de serted from the battleship Pennsyl vania at San Francisco, Cal. Since that time he has been in various parts of the country and has held a number of positions as telegraph operator. He was tired, he said, of the feeling that he was fugitive and resolved to give himself up, serve his punishment and get it over. He attempted to give him self up to the officers at the marine re cruiting station, he said, but they could not take him. After that he gave him self up to the police. His home is in New Orleans, where he has a number of relatives.
