The Atlanta Journal says re-♦ports have* been received from 7S counties, showing that theft* are 8,444 widows of Confederate diers in,the localities heard from. This would make an average of 31 widows to each county, and taking this as a basis there are not less than 4,247 widows in the state. Under the act passed by the General Assembly they are to receive $100 each, if they prove themselves entitled to a pension, and the enormous sum of $424,700 will be? required to pay them. The legislature appropriated only $lt;50,000.
