Meeting: re Cemetery-A public meeting to discuss the question of obtaining land for a public cemetery called by Rev. W. G. Lyon, for Monday evening, was held in the 'Immigration ' building. Rev. Mr. Lyon, as convenor, explained the object for which the meeting was called and asked those present to proceed with the business.On motion Rev. W. G. Lyon was appointed chairman and J. K. Drinnan Secretary.The chairman read extracts from the Northwest Cemetery Ordinances to show what steps should lie taken by the meeting. He explained that a committee would have to be appointed whose duty would be to look up a desirable site and then obtain the names of twenty persons willing to become stock holders In a company. This company would own and control the cemetery grounds.The following committee was then elected, Ewart, Ftnlay, Leonard Scat-cherd, Niblock aud the president and secretary of the meeting.On motion of Messrs. Ewart and Calkins it was decided to hold another public meeting before the first of May to hear the report of the committee and to take further action, said meeting to be called by the chairman of the committee. The meeting then adjourned.A meeting of the committee was held in Mr. Scatcherd's storo yesterday afternoon. There were present Rev W. G. Lyon, M. Leonard, W. T. Finlay, H. S. Scatcherd and J. Ewart.Messrs, Finlav Leonard and Lyon were appointed a committeee to look outfand report on a suitable site.Messrs. Ewart and Drinnan were appointed a committee to draw up the legal stock sheet according to ordinance and have it signed.On motion it was decided that committees should repot t on Monday next at 15 o’clock at a meeting of the whole committee, in H.S. Scatcherd's office.Adiournraent then took place.
