Easter week end—traditionally a slow time for real estate—brought another national record-breaking throng to the seven model homes of the vast Lakewood development. Teams of observers gauged Sunday's crowds at more than 30,000 people. The 15-acre parking area was filled throughout the day. With allowances for slack periods, their estimates approached 35,000, reported Roderic J. Tichenor of Tichenor Co., Realtors, exclusive sales agents.“We expected a lighter attendance last week end becauseof Easter, but again we were very pleasantly amazed by the throngs which came out to see our furnished homes,” Tichenor said. We are Indeed gratified by the wonderful public reception Lakewood has had. Sales are proving that the people like what they see here.” The 17,150-home development was the subject of an article in the business and finance section of Time magazine last week. Terming Lakewood the “biggest U. S. housing project,” the article commented that in three years the community willdwarf such long-established cities as Poughkeepsie, N. Y* and Holyoke, Mass.The national magazine emphasizes the point made by Mark Taper, one of the principals of Lakewood Park Corp., that “ours will be the only big city in the world without any garbage.” because every home is equipped with an automatic disposer.
