OXNARD OPERA HOUSE M FORMALLY OPENEDhe Florence Slone and Dick Ferris Open Pe New Play House!ity Initial Attraction Draws Big Crowd—EverybodyDelighted with Oxnard’s New Theatre.Rlt;Oxnard Opert* House has been formally opened for the publlo and it was a great opening. The people of ihi-i city now feel that they Hre in a position to take on airs and claim a real live playhouse. The crowd that wbb gathered at the Thursday night performance testified to the need tbHt the people of this city have felt for a good play house Hnd one in which shows that are worth while might give us some good entertainments.A better play than the one selected for last night could not have been chosen. The audience was charmed from the very opening lines to the close. The new theatre was well filled. That is the seating capacity was well tested, although the building is of a size to make room for a couple of hunderd more people than the number who were there last night. The aisles are wide and give a roomy and comfortable teeling. In the time of necessity it will be perfectly possible to partially Ml these aisles with seats. The lack of good music has always been felt at former shows unless some special arrangement was made. The 10 piece orchestra furnished by Mr. Hall last Dight did itself proud, however, and we are glad to announce that the mush* for future shows will a be as good, if the plans of the man p agement of the theatre do not go amiss. eIt is superfluous for us to enlarge upon the excellent work of the cast in “Friends”. B(tb Florence Stone and her husband were a decided hit and they were supported by a company that would le good enough for any stage.
