ANDREW HANSON SUICIDES.Ends His Life W ith a Rifle W hile Out• f His Mind Saturday Afternoon.1 Ik* news of tin* suicide of Mr. Andrew Hanson, who lived about a mile north of the city, last Friday afternoon about 5 :‘10 o’clock, cast a gloom of sorrow over the city, with deep sympathy for the sorrowing relatives.Mr. Hanson had been sick a great deal of late, and it issup]osed that he was not in his right mind when the deed was committed. His son'Adolph, an employe of this office, was called home about noon by a telephone message announcing the serious illness of his father,and remained at home the rest of the day.. Mr. Hanson was in bed during the afternoon, and kept the rifle at his side. Those in the house attempted several times to take it from him, but he insisted U]K)n keeping it. About five o’clock Adolph went to the barn to attend to some chores, and while he was alone, Mr. Hanson placed the muzzle of the rifle in his mouth and shot himself, death resulting almost instantly. Henry i Haas, a neighbor, was summoned by the shouts of the family, and arrived just as Mr. Hanson died.A coroner’s jury was summoned, Justice Barthell acting as coroner in the absence from the city of Dr. Jewell, with C. N. Houck clerk, and a jury consisting of H. \Y. Goocher, H. F. Schwarz and A. A. Olson, before whom the above facts were testified. resulting in a finding of suicide as abo\e.The deceased was about (17 years old, an old soldier, and was well known in the county. He had been suffering a great deal of late, and there seems little doubt that he was out of his mind when the deed was committed. His wife, three sons and three daughters are left to mourn. The funeral services were held from the home Sunday aftenoon, Rev. J. O. Haugen officiating. burial in Phelps cemetery.
