In a Fit of Despondenoy, he Cuts Himself With a Razor, and Bleeds to Death.*The people of this city ! were horrified last Tuesday afternoon on learning that Gust Lasch, thof well known painter had committed suicide. Tho facts in the easu us near as - we cun learn are as follows.Mr. Lasch has been living on a homestead in the Iron River country for about a year past, and on Sunday last he made a visit to this city. lie seemed to bo all right at that time though his son Dick informs us that while in conversation with him Sunday oveuing he noticed that his mindseemed to be unsettled. Monday»night ho slopt with Win. lleinhart, bartender lor Anton limit, in Mr. Itoinhart’s room over the saloon, which is on Silver street near the Montreal River bridge. Mr. Ileinhart says that at six o’ciock in the morning Mr. Lasch woke him up, saying that tho whistles were blowing and it was time to open the saloon. He accordingly arose and went about Ids work and thought no more about Mr. Lasch until about noon when he thought ho would go up to the room, and Bee why he did not -get up. Ho accordingly went up to the room where ho found Mr. Lasch lying upon tho bed with a razor iu his hand and bleeding from numerous wounds which he hud undoubtedly indicted upon himself with that instrument, Drs, Kelly, Ellis and Smith were at once summoned and thinking that there might possibly be a chance of his living, they bound up his won nils, but ho succumb id from loss of blood at about 2 o’clock. His wounds were numerous and sovere there being a deep gash on aacli wrist and several severe cuts in both sides of his neck, which were probably in an endeavor to sever tho jnglar vein. Mr. Lasch was one of Iron-wond’s oldest citizens arid counted his friends by the hundreds, lie was a prominent member of tho Odd Fellows Lodge of this city.
