H. Smith, 423 Iowa street, when he took a sivaltow of formaldehyde solution, 'used for disinfecting purposes. Mr. Smith’s failing eye-slght was responsible for the accident. He failed to distinguish. between a hot-[*1 tlo of medicine; from which.lie took 11 regular doses, and the bottle of formaldehyde. He is about seventy years of age anil lias been nearly blind for several years. The bottle of formaldehyde and bottle of medl-cino were similar In size and appearance, and chanced to l?e setting clase together. The victim immediately realized his mistake and hastened to take an emetic. A doctor'was summoned at once, who gave an additional emetic and expressed tho opinion that Mr. Smith was in no serious danger.The physician said Mr. Smltli would feel the ill effects of the poison for several day6. He jstated the formaldehyde solution chanced to be a rather weak one, or the result might have been different, even tho an .emetic was promptly taken. The ordinary strength of formaldehyde solution for disinfecting purposes is’ about rorty per cent, and would quickly cook human flesh. This is the kind used by undertakers in embalming.t
