APRIL 15. 1905.No. 15.Officers Kill One And Capture The Other Both Put Up A Scrap.On the morning ofthc 7th Sheriff Houck received a telegram from Winslow stating that the Wigwam saloon had been held up by two masked men about 2 o’clock that morning, and he hoarded No. 1 for the scene of the holdup. To him we are indebted for the following details of the holdup and the capture of the robbers.At about 1:30 a. m. John Kel-1 ley, night bartender in the Wigwam asked Night Marshall Kct-, churn to watch out for him while he stepped out to get something to eat, while Kelley was out two masked men stepped in the front door, one of them threw down on Kctehum and the other one went over to the roulette wheel and began raking the bank of silver, which contained between $250 and $300, into a tin bucket which they had brought with them. This finished they step-out and disappeared.People in the saloon at first thought it a joke, but when the men disappeared with the ‘dough’ they realized it was the real thing, a hold up, then sizing up the situation and taking into consideration that the robbers did not go into the cash register, or take the bank roll on the crap table they came to the conclusion they were green hands and had weakened before completing their job.When Houck arrived in Winslow Kctehum informed him Pete Pemberton had gone to Flagstaff on the lookout for them and advised him to go there also, which he did. In Flagstaff he met l’ete who said he hadn't any trace of them and was going to return to Winslow on the local.
