TRANSFER OF PRISONERS.On Monday* Apr. 12t occurred the transfer of prisoners between Jcffcrsonvillcand Michigan City. All preparations for the trip were complete and no trouble was experienced in the removal. Two trains were used to convey the prisoners, one leaving each place and meeting at Carmel, where the rcalcx c han gc was made. Two men were chained together and were allowed to converse with their scat-mates during* the trip. The trxun was well guarded and every precaution was taken to prevent an accident. Man}’ sorrowful faces were seen at Jeffersonville when the time came for them to leave the place that had been the liomc o( many of them formany years.: There seemed to be enough manhood left in many of them to realize that the cliangc was but a part of .their punishment and that they constituted the worst class of Indiana’s criminals. At the Northern Prison, cheers were given when it was made known that the change was to be made and that many of them would be given ii. chance to improve their condition. . Among the life prisoners who made the change, was Hinshaw,with whose crime many of our readers arc familiar. .
