In speaking of the new fish law of this State, it may not be generally known that Congress has maile a large appropriation for the purpose of distributing food fish to the different States. It is hoped by this means, now that our State has taken the proper step by enacting a law on the subject, that in a few years the rivers and lakes of Iowa will be filled with salmon, trout, whitefish, black and Oswego bass, laud locked salmon and other varieties of non-mi moratory fish suitable for our waters. Iii a recent private letter, Hon. G. II. Jerome, formerly of Iowa City, but for several years past one of the fish commissioners of Michigan, speaking of the attention of 1 own to her fish culture, says: βHer acres of water can become more valuable than an equal number of the, choicest prairie.β
