WW Lions Win District Track; Awards At PromThe swift Wilson White Lions track team ran to another District 7A track title last Saturday in Taylor by a margin of 17i points over the second place team from Taylor.The Lions totaled 51 points for the meet, and qualified for all events in the finals. It was said that Whitfield got a badstart.A. D. Whitfield and EddieThornton took second and third place in the 220-yard dash.Team Captain L. K. McKinney, won the 440-yard dash to set a new District 7A record of 501 seconds flat.A highlight of the meet was I the 440-yard relay. Eddie Thom-j ton scratched for Lions, and ! took a short lead, McKinney ran the second leg and stretched the lead further, Grate ran third man and gained still more yardage, then Co-Captain A. I). Whitfield brought home the win by 15 yards. Their time was 14.9 seconds.Hinton Jones and Frank Veail placed second and third in the 880-yard run. Judge Horton and James Campbell ran the mile for the Lions.The main event of the day was the mile relay. The Lions were behind for the first two laps until Frank Veail took the baton for the third, and brought the team into the lead. L. E. McKinney anchored the relay with a 49.6 second quarter, and the team broke the old district record of 3.31 minutes with a 3.28 minutes.Bobbie Veail won the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet f inches. He took second in the high jump and broad jump.A. D. Whitfield won the shot put with a 47 feet record throw. Nolan Dixon took third in the discus throw with 119 feet, 8 inches.The Lionettes placed third in the meet and the Junior boys team tied for first with the team from Caldwell. Redus W’il-liams and Roger Kindred were outstanding on the junior team. Lela Kindred won the discus throw for the Lionettes.
