He was conscious Thursday night, but was never able to talk. William M. Bell was born in Dubois county, October 25, 1840, and died April 7th. He lived with his parents near Haysville for a number of years. He came to this county about forty years ago and has since been a resi dent of Washington and Jeffer son townships. He was a good citizen and a model farmer and through his thrift and strict at tention to business had become a pros perous farmer. He had never held nor sought office though often oppor tuned to accept the nomination by the democrats for commissioner from his district. As a citizen he stood in the highest esteem by all who knew him. Mr. Bell united with the Gen eral Baptist church 28 years ago and for a number of years was a deacon of Mt. Olive church. He was a de voted christian and practiced his re ligion, being a generous citizen and a friend of the poor. The funeral services were held Sun day morning at the C. P. church at Algiers, being conducted by Revs. F. M. Kerr and J. M. Burch. Interment at the McClure cemetery. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father, and a host of friends.
