By HARVEY BURGESS Robesonian Staff Writer FAIRMONT Sad faces filled the small house of Luvenia and Kary Jackson Sr. today. “They say the Lord works in mysterious ways,” says Luvenia Jackson, whose anguish is tripled by Wednesday night’s fire in the White Pond community south of here. Luvenia lost five grandchildren, her son was seriously injured, and her daughter-in-law remains in a state of shock ‘We have to watch her all the time,” Luvenia notes. Friends and neighbours by the score have filed through the elder Jacksons’ house, bringing food and consoling mother, grand mother and grandfather Funeral services are to be held this weekend for five-year-old Sandra McCrimmon, four year-old Barbara Ann Jackson, three-year-old Betty Ann Jackson, two-year-old Joyce Mary Jackson, and three month-old Mary Ann Jackson. Kary Jackson Jr. lies in Souutheastern General Hospital today with third-degree burns over 30 percent of his budy His painful account of the tragedy is still somewhat dum ‘There was fire everywhere.”” remembers Kary Jackson “I jumped out of the front window My arms were on fire, and there was smoke everywhere. I ran around to the back bedroom and hollered for the young ‘uns to come to me. My wife was at the front screaming for the other children. Georgianna Jackson's cries, like those of her husband, were in vain “Thad just got a new job (the week before),” says Kary Jackson. “I was makin’ $12 a day haulin’ fertilizer for a man in Dillon ‘We was all happy about that I'm gonna miss my young'uns. I had fun with those young’ uns Kary Jackson looks away, his eyes filled with tears in a sorrowful mixture of pain and remembering. Investigators confirmed Thursday that the fire was caused by an exploding lawnmower in the living room of the wood-frame house. The mower was apparently parked too close to a heater, and gas from the tank ignited. Kary Jackson said Thursday he didn’t think the heater was on at the time. A spokesman for Community Funeral Home in Fairmont said today that funeral services for the five children will be held Saturday, but arrangements as to time and location were incomplete
