COLUMBUS ATTORNEY WHOSE HINE STRUCK WOMAN ‘AND CHILD COMMITTED. SUICIDE SUNDAY. COLUMBUS, April 13.—Arthur Burkett, 32, 1137. Oakland Ave., at torney and lodgeman, who’ was ar rested for the second time in’ six months Saturday, committed suicide yesterday, shortly, after his ' wife started , to prepare’, breakfast, by shooting himself through ‘the heart with a hunting rifle. He was in an upstairs room alone, his wife having# arisen and gone to the kitchen. Shortly, after she came downstairs, she heard a shot and rushed ‘upstairs. Hie’ was dead when she reached him. Burkett ended his life, after a ‘se ries of ‘episodes which culminated Saturday night in his arrest by Pa trolman Hanes on a charge of driv ing while intoxicated, after failing to stop after an accident. His first ar rest came, when Patrolmen Hoffman and Kezerta, arrested him, Nov.” 2. last, on charges of intoxication,’ pre ferred by his wife, who accused him of beating her. “The charge was ‘dis missed at municipal ’court. Shortly, after that,Mrs. Burkett started divorce proceedings. Her husband filed a cross-petition against her. The suit was dropped about two months’ ago and a reconciliation was effected. Saturday’ Burkett ran into «Mrs. Mary Hartsook, colored, 1122 N. Fourth St. who was ..standing in the safety zone holding her infant daugh ter, Thelma, in her arms. Police say he drove’ through the safety . Zone; knocking the woman and baby to’ the street. They escaped injury. He was captured. after a chase, that led to. Fifth, Ave, and High St. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. ‘m. tomorrow’ ‘at the. R. BE. Jones . San Co. Memorial, Monroe Ave.and Broad * Ste. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. ;
