By HARVEY BURGESS Robesonian Staff Writer FAIRMONT β€” Five children, ranging in age from three months to five years, perished in a house fire Wednesday night in the White Pond community south of here. The father of the children, 24-year old Kary Jackson, was hospitalized with extensive third-degree burns, but the mother, 21-year-old Georgianna Jackson, was unhurt. The dead children were identified as five-year-old Sandra McCrimmon, four-year-old Barbara Ann Jackson, three-year-old Betty Ann Jackson, two-year-old Joyce Mary Jackson, and Mary Ann Jackson, age three months. β€˜The fire apparently broke out around 10:20 p.m.,’’ said Trooper Hubert Covington, who discovered the blaze. Covington then called for help, with fire-fighting units from the Fairmont Rural and Smyrna volunteer departments responding. Ambulances were called in from the Robeson County Ambulance Service and the Lumberton Rescue Unit. Investigating Sheriff's Department detective H. C. Edwards noted that the blaze apparently erupted when Kary Jackson was working on a lawnmower in the living room of the See FIRE Page Two
