Walter Merrell and Mike Carer, and left Winnipeg the 6th day of February, 1916. Shortly after landing in England, he, together with his comrades, were transported over to Prsnce, end in April commenced their duties. These boys passed through their hazardous work without a wound until October tat, wbeti, in one of tlie battles of the Somme, Private Wiggins received a wound in his left leg of such a serious tutors, thst am jut a non became necessary to sava his life.One would imagine a handicap such as Ptc. Wiggins hss received would lead to make him downhearted, but such ta not the case, and to nae his own words '1 got ofl mighty lucky.This is indicative of the good aplrit that prevails among our boys.On the above evening it was both refreshing and cheering to see the different expressions of sympathy given to our returned hero, and while bitter tgprs of sorrow moistened msoy eyes ss he passed through the crowd enjoying 4 s haVidshake—vet it ia beyond our pen to voice the sentiment of those present of the silent tribute and honor for the brave boy who had done bis share in rallying to the cause of humsnity against German tyranny and autocracy. Abort all the expressions of sympathy for t£g_boy who had retnrned alive we could detect s greater footing of sympathy extended to thoee mothers sod friends who can never have the privilege of seeing their noble sous return, and whose solace ia the memory of a gallant hero tiling a Silent grsve In s foreign land.After a month's furlough at his parental home. Pie. Wiggins will return to the Convnkeent hospital at Whitby, Ont., to receive further medical attention.
