How They Hit.The complete batting of every player who last year wore the colors of the viotorons team of Red Sox is given below.Only those who pa ticipated in at least five games are included among the regulars although those who played a less number than that made a splendid showing. The team average was 256 and considering the fact that they were up against strong pitching all season stamps them as hard hitters.OfGames At Batting played bat run? his averageWalker35 139 2353380C. Walker who hassoablyLidirected the actions of the team on the field will again use the prefix of captain to his name. His work on the keystone sack last season was the best that has been seen here since George Moore was guardian of that position and it would have been hard to improve upon it. He was a sure fielder, a great ground coverer and could always be depended upon to use good judgment in a close play. It was on the inside however, that he showed most brilliantly. He led the team in hitting with the top-heavy mark of 380 besides drawing the greatest number of bases on balls. He also led in sacrifice hits and stolen bases. When John A. Spinney the noted sporting man of Cincinnati was here with his Greensburg team last summer, Walker made four clean drives off Caldwell the crack University of Cincinnati pitcher out of four times up and accepted twelve chances at second without an error. Spinney, who has boosted more amateur players into the leagues than any man in the country, in speaking of Walker, said that he considered him the best all around man playing amateur ball. Walker wilt stick with the Reds for another season at least. John Hutching, the tall farmer boy from Scipio who gained the sobriquet of “Old Reliable Hutch” here last year was the first one of the out of town Reds to sign. The news brought joy to the Reds camp for his work on the rubber and at the bat made him one of the mainstays of the club. “Hutch” has an offer of $150.00 per month from the Missouri Valley League but thinks another year with the Reds will better fix him for fast, company. All of the Ex-Reds who will play in the leagues this summer have joined their respective teams. Mike Simon, is at Peoria and Forrest More at Springfield, III., in the “Three Eye-League.” Ray Ryan it with Wheeling, in the “Central” and Cliff Daringer at Lynchburg Va. iu the “Virginia State League.” Walter More will not decide upon any plans until the end of his school year at Indiana University. The first game of the preliminary series between the Reds and Iron Clads was postponed on account of wet grounds. They will likely get together Sunday.
