Post Surgeon, Air Corps Advanced Plying School, Tuskegee, reports the arrival of 5 Negro nurses, assignee to the medical staff of the *Pcsl Medical unit.The new arrivals are: FirstLieutenant Della H. Raney, chlel nurse; 2nd Lieut. Mary Petty, Chicago, 2nd Lieut, Ruth Speight. Wllcrn, N. C; 2nd Lieut. Kathryn Bough, Portsmouth. Va., and 2nd Lieut. Gertrude L. Scott. Philadelphia. All were transferred from Port Bragg, North Carolina.Lieut. Raney has the distinction of several ‘'firsts” She was the first Negro nurse to report for duty in the new army for World War No. II; she was the first Negro nurse to be appointed chief nurse, and the first to be promoted to 1st Lieutenant.2nd Lt. Mary Petty is n graduate of Freedmans in Washington, D. C., 2nd Lr. Ruth Speight is a graduate or St. Agnes. Raleigh. N. C., and 2nd Lt. Gertrude L.’ Scott finished nurse training at Mercy Hospital, Philadelphia.
