BABBIT, OF CLINTON, TAD NARROW EPSCAPE, IN DISAS THOUS FIRE, HE WAS NEARLY SUFFOCATED Was One of the Last Persons to Leave the Burning Building—Used Wet Towel to Keep Himeeck Prom Suuffocating, D. D.. Babbit, of Clinton, Jr., one of the men who had a narrow escape from the burning Juilen Hotel Tues day morning, gives a vivid description of his experiences in an Interview with a representative of the Clinton Herald. Mr. Rabbit and FP, A. Van Vieck, another resident of Clinton, both had narrow escapes. ‘The Her ald says: Trapped in the burning Hotel Ju lien at Dubuque, totally destroyed = fire early Tuesday morning, D. D. Babbit and F. A. Van Vieck, of Clin ton, had narrow escapes from the building, Mr. Babbit being rescued just in the nick of ime after a most thrilling experience. “He was probably the last of the 100 guests to be res cued from the hostelry, which is now a mass of ruins. Hoth men returned to Clinton Tuesday morning, Mr. Van Vieck to secure clothing to replace those lost in the fire and Mr. Rabbit to recover from the effects of his ex perience. LOST THEIR VALUABLES, Hoth Mr. Babbit and Mr. Van Vieck lost a part of their clothing in the fire, not having time to secure it. Mr. Van Vieck is minus his watch, a valuable timepiece, and a large part of his clothing, while Mr. Babbit lost his overcoat and his baggage in the fire.
