AMUSEMENTSThe production of “Richard the Third'1 by John Griffith at the Grand last Thursday evening was without a doubt the best play put on at the local theatre within recent years, and it is to be regretted that it came on the same night with the Royal reception so that the attendenee could not have been larger.Mr. Griffith's portrayal of the title roie was somewhat different from that ordinarily seen, bringing out the vlilany in his King* Richard the more by his portrayal of a lighter side in his character at times. The scenes were all good; Special!y the scene in the tower which is not often put on in the production of this great Shakespearian play.Should John Griffith and his excellent company ever return to Huron they will undoubtedly be greeted with a packed house, as this actor rivals Walker Whiteside who has heretofore been considered the best actor who has visited Huron.The plot and story of “On the Bridge at Midnight” which is to appear at the opera house for one night April 18 is a triumph of ingenuity and play construction, are among the cleverest and most interesting on thestage. A blind mother seeks her kidnapped child and meets with an experience that would overwhelm anybody but such a mother.
