DEMOCRATIC MEETING IN UNION.In pursuance to previous notice, a large meetingof the Democracy of Union County, was held at theCourthouse in Monroe, on Tuesday, April 8 1845. On motion of Col. Thomas C. Wilson, the meeting was organized by the appointment of Robert Lem-monds. Esq., Chairman, and Col. Jas. M. Stewart, Secretary. Upon a call from the Chair, Mr. J. W. Hampton, of Mecklenburg, explained the objects of the meeting in a short and appropriate address, and concluded by moving the appointment of a C ommit-lee to prepare business for the action of the meeting: The Chair appointed Silas P. Stewart, John Stewart, Daniel llargelt, Esqrs., and Col. T. C. Wilsonand Capt Henry Long, said Committee—w ho, afterretiring a short time, reported the following, which met the unanimous sanction of the meeting:Whereas, we deem it important that the Democracy of this District should commence an organ za-tion. and f;\ upon their candidate for the next Congressional electionand believing that the best mode of ascertaining the sense of our party on this question, is by a District Convention—therefore Resolved, That we suggest to our party in the several Counties of this Congressional District, to appoint Delegates to meet in Convention at the Tavern of A. D. Kerr, Esq., 3 miles above DavidsonCollege, on Saturday the 30th of May next, to select a candidate to be supported by the Democracy ’ at the next election ; and that each County appoint one Delegate for every 100 Democratic voles polledat the last Presidential ejection.Resolved, That we recommend to said Convention as the unanimous choice of the Democracy of thisCounty, the Don, CHARLES FISHER, of Rowan, a sterling Democrat, and a gentleman ol distinguished abilities and of unsullied private character; and that the Delegates from th is County be. and they are hereby instructed to vote for lam as our first choice —but \vc pledge our cordial support to the nominee of said Convention, whoever he may be Resolved That the Chairman of this meeting appoint six Delegates to attend said Convention in behalf of this County.Resolved, That the Chairman ar.d Secretary berequested to sign these proceedings and forward them to the editor of the Mecklenburg Jeffersonian for publication ; with a request to the editors of the Lincoln Courier and Raleigh Standard to copythem.The Chair then appointed the following gentlementhe Delegates to the District Convention : Jno.Walk er, Amos Stevens, Michael Crowell.
