.The Sul Ross Lobos proved to be unfriendly guests in San Antonio over the weekend by taking three games from the ‘Trinity University Tigers 7-5, 7-4, 72. Eddie Duarte started the Lobos with a RBI double in the first inning of the opening game scoring Jimmy Morris who had also doubled. Judd Ryan moved Duarte to third with a single before designated hitter John Bowman delivered another RBI with a single to center. The Lobos picked up two more runs in the second inning after a two-out homer by Arturo Moreno. Lobo starter Dennis Taylor gave up one run in the first but retired the Tigers in order on strikeouts in the second. Taylor gave way to reliever Shay Morris in the bottom of the fifth, leaving the mound with a 4- 3 lead. But Morris served up a lead-off homer to Trinity’s Glenn MacLeay that tied the game at 4- 4. Sul Ross rallied in the sixth with a pair of singles by Rod Venner and Bob Jarrett. Jarrett was credited with the RBI that gave the lead back to the Lobos at 14. Morris retired the Tigers in the sixth, and the Lobos conjured up another scoring rally in the top of the seventh. Duarte finished the game with another RBI, this time scoring J. Morris. Terry Parsons was sent in as a pinch runner for Duarte and was driven to third with a Bowman single. Parsons scored on a double steal for the final Lobo run of the game. A two-out Trinity rally fell short as the Tigers managed one run in their half of the seventh. Morris, facing a bases-loaded situation, struck out the final ‘Tiger to put the icing on the win. ‘The Lobos used late inning heroics to come from a 4-3 deficit in the seventh to tie the second game and throw it into extra innings. In the seventh, Moreno hit into a fielders choice for the second out. Moreno than stole second and scored on a J. Morris single to center to tie the game. Winning pitcher Jeff Price held the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh, picking up his eighth strike out of the game. Price allowed just four runs on eight hits and a walk, and only two of the runs were earned. A Lobo error with the bases loaded allowed two runs in the third. Darrell Holmes led off the final inning with a hard-hit double to deep left field. Venner added what proved to be the game winning hit with an RBI single. Pannell put the game on ice with a two-run homer over the left field fence for the final Sul Ross tallies. Jes was the in the final innings, putting out Trinity's hopes for a win by retiring the final three Tiger batters. Gonzales is 2-0 on the year and was credited with his second save. The freshman righthander’s earned-run average has dipped to 1.86 as he he four runs in 19. Veteran right-hander Rowdy Brown picked up the final win for the Lobos, scattering six hits and two walks over seven innings. Two runs in the first inning on an error and a wild pitch put Brown in an early tight spot before the Sul Ross offense could punch in four runs to take the lead. George Cantu and Jarrett added RBIs in the fourth inning to give Sul Ross the go-ahead runs. Parnell followed with his second homer of the series and his fifth on the year in the sixth. Ryan drove in the final run of the series with his second triple of the weekend. The Lobos return to action at Kobernot Field Friday and Saturday institational powerhouse Dallas Baptist University. Friday's double header begins at 5 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader action gets underway at 1 p.m.
