SPARTA, Wis. — When members of the Sparta Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) act as host for the Coulee Region number four meeting Saturday, the speaker will be a Sparta native, Dr. Kathryn Clarenbach, who is chairman of the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women. Dr. Clarenbach, daughter of Rev. A. E. Frederick of Sparta, graduated from Sparta High School in 1937 and earned bachelor’s, masters and doctor of philosophy degrees in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a founder and former chairman of the board of the National Organization of Women (NOW), and she has served in various capacities on the state and national levels relative to the status of women. Dr. Clarenbach has served as an instructor and lecturer at colleges and Universities in various parts of the nation and as a member of task forces investigating equal opportunities for women. The meeting will be held at the Club Oasis three miles east of Sparta with registration beginning at 11:45 a.m. A slate of officers will be elected. Candidates nominated are Jean Solberg of La Crosse to succeed Marie Rienks of Sparta as president; Juanita Gilner of Tomah ;and Clara Overbo of the Vernon Area Club, first and second vice presidents; Helen Quinnette of Neillsville, record ing secretary; Leone Lahm and Alice Shoemaker of Sparta, treasurer. Nominations also may be made from the floor. Ruth Lenz, first vice president of the state BPW, will speak at the meeting and install officers. A skit will be presented by the Tomah club.
