He was 70 years of age, bom Nov, 27, 1891, near Hanover,Pa.Dr. Garrett left Frederick to assume the pastorate of the Lutheran Church in Sea Isle, New Jersey, in 1954. He retired from active service in 1957, and since that time had been living in Harrisburg with his wife, Clara By-nrly Garrett.Their only son, Robert L. Garrett, is married to the former Miss Susan McAlpino, daughter of Mrs. Harrison McAlpine, Frederick. The couple resides in Phoenix, Arizona.Came Here In 1M4Rev. Dr. Garrett preached his first sermon in the local church March 26, 1944, as a guest pastor,The congregation was so impressed by his sermon that it extended him a unanimous call to become pastor here. The pastorate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at the time had been vacant for five months since the former pastor, Rev. Dr. Amos J.Trover, had accepted a call to become a member of the facultyof the Hamma Divinity School et Wittenberg College.Prior to his acceptance of the storate here, he was pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church of orwood. Pa. His first sermon as pastor of the church here was preached the first Sunday in May,i£OADr. Garrett resigned the pastorate here just ten years after j aid Eav pis acceptance of the post, in May 9654.
