e’ CARVER HALLOPENS DOORS INWASHINGTONGeorge W, Carver Hall, a I resident hotel in Washington, D, C., for Negro men employed in government war work, and the first of its type to he constructed in this country, was opened Thursday, April 1.The project was built by the Defense Homes Corporation of -j the Federal Public Housing s Authority and was named for the eminent Negro scientist, the late George Washington Carver of Tuskegee Institute,Located at Second and Elm fc Streets, N. W., the project will accomodate 205 Negro men in 159 single and 2 3 double rooms. Occupancy is restricted to government workers who have come to Washington within the last 12 months, and who are certified as war workers by their employing agencies. Rentals are $7 per week for singl© rooms and $6.50 per week per person for double rooms. Meals 1 will be served at Lucy Slowe ? Hall, one black away, a similar t type project for Negro women 3 workers.Facilities in the new project include running water in each room with shower and bath p units provided for every four \ persons. Reading and writing i rooms and reception and recreation areara are also ^available.
