Tlie Arrest of John Sonnier.Sheriff* C. Duson arrived lien* Sunday night, April 4tli, with John Sunnier, whom he arrested at Sandy 1 Poiut, Urnzoria county, Texas, on Saturday March *J7lli. On the lull of dune, 1871, Sonnier murdered Andre Prud*-liouinie, an old and reaper ted citizen, at hi* resideuce in the western pait «*l this parish, lTud'hommc was an old man and almost blind. It seeius a nephew of Sonnici's had beeii given to Prud'hommo to niise, by his mother. On the day preceding the hoinieide Prud'houime had chastized the Imv. Early the next morning Souajer rude up and called Prud'honiuic to the gate and asked him if lie had whipped his nephew. On his replying in the a Hit-1 niative, Sonnier jerked out his pistol. The old man wheeled 'round and tried to run to the house, begging Sonnier not to shoot. As lie wits 1 imping away Sonnier shot him iu the back. iiisk victim lingered a few hours iu agony ainl then died.Immediately after the shooting Sonnier rode oft*. lie went to Calcasieu I Ixirisli, blit liudiug the otlicers of the law were on his track went to Texas. Still a fugitive from justice, he slipped back to Louisiana, where lie remained skulking iu Calcasieu parish. Iu 1872 j or 187-J, ho waylaid, iniirdercd and robbed W. J. Kunuion iu that parish, llunniou had been to Washington, iu this parish, and sold a lot of produce.
