Harr)' Stein is Man -Charged With the Crime—Three Others Are Being- Held,New York, April 9, —(/P)~■ Vivian Gordon’s murder was believed solved today..The man charged with-her murder was Karry 'Stein, otherwise unidentified In the cautions first announcement..Three others are held as -ma-'terial' witnesses and a fifth, whose connection with the cast was hot made clear, was held for possessing a pistol and burglar tools. j The motive for ,_-the • murder, police said, -was robbery.By a coincidence, all five men. ( gave ibeir place of birth as Russia.Vivian Gordon was strangled and her body thrown into a thicket in Van Cortland • park early -on -the morning of February 26,The arrests were made simultaneously last night in various parts of the city. Besides Stein, those arrested were:Samuel Greenhauer, alias Greenberg, Grcenhcar and Greenie, 44 years old. Occupation, • tailor,Moris^ (Doc) Levine, 36, occupation, electrician:David. Butterman, 34, occupation, jobber. ‘Jack Holdcroft, 29, fonner Canadian trooper.Skeleton keys and a pistol f were found in Holdcroit's room,Stein, Levine and Greenhauer are three of the men mention in Vivian Gordon’s diary—the diary in which she set down her affairs of love and blackmail and fear.• The three—Stein,, Levine and Greenhauer—denied knowing the Gordon woman. They could not explain their names in her diary.Two men and a woman identified Stein, police said, as having been ni possession of a mink coat a wrist watch and a chain the day after the murder. Similar articles were stolen from Miss Gordon.Another bit of evidence against Stein, police said, was the appearance jn the Gordon diary of trie names ‘Harry Sanders’' and “Sol Lubin.” both of which Stein ad- ( irlt;ltied to police are names he has ‘ used as aliases.CANDIDATES DO NOT
