April 9.—A shell which 15-year-old Stanley Franckowiak, of 623 Lake View avenue, Whiting, did not know about when he examined an automatic pistol and the bullet grazed the left cheek and shoulder of 9-months-oId Alex Pawlus at his parents* home, 73S Indiana boulevard here last night.It was at first thought that the bullet had penetrated the cheek, but tin examination by physicians disclosed the shell had just grazed the cheek and shoulder. The child was Removed to St. Catherine’s hospital, %iit will be brought home today, itwas learned.The family and Stanley Franckowiak, who is an uncle to the injured child, today denied the facts concerning the shooting as told in a. There was no party at our house last night and Stanley did not try to amuse the child with the gun'”they said.According to a story told by Stanley, he was examining the automatic pistol which he found on a shelf, shortly after 7 o’clock last night. He said he removed the magazine with its shells. The baby who was sitting on the floor, crawled up to his knee, where the gun was lying, the boy said.
