Co. was a lusty infant. In that year 35 men were employed and 150 bicyoles were made and sold. This good seedof an excellent product, planted in thefertile soil of unlimited capital and unsurpassed facilities, nurtured by sound judgment, progressive business methods and a policy of liberal and judicious advertising, has in the short period of six years multiplied three hundredfold. The infaot of but yesterday is the giant of today. The experiment of 1891 is the unparalleled success of 1896. East year .15 men and 150 wheels were increased to 1,200 employees and 50,000 high grade bicycles, which were marketed in eyery civilized country in the world, aggregating a business of $2,000,000.This remarkable record, especially in 1896, the most trying and critical year in the history of the cycle trade, speaks volumes for the excellence and popularity of the Monarch and the sagacity and reputation of its builders. Through this period of panic, when scores of bicycle factories were closed up by the sheriff, the Monarch 6tood as solid as Gibraltar, its credit and reputation not only unimpaired but rather increased and strengthened by the trials through which it had undergone. After carefully studying the merits of various makes of bicycles, Mr. E. B. VanAlstine, desiring to furnish his patrons with the best, has made contracts with The Monarch Cycle Mfg. Co., and will handle the “Monarch” during the coming season. A number of sample wheels have been received and are now on exhibition at Mr. Van Alstine's oftice. Those contemplating the purchase of a new wheel this year and all others are cordially invited to call and inspect this beautiful, substantial, and thoroughly reliable line of bicycles.
