Hal Harkey, member of the Crystal City High School ten nis team coached by Larry Carroll, won first place in boy’s singles at the district meet held in Fredericksburg on April 12. This was the first district victory for a Crystal City high school tennis player since Don ald Rutledge Sr. won his dis trict game in 1927. Hal played 58 games, winning 49 and los ing only nine. Teams in the district were from Uvalde, Del Rio, Fred ericksburg, Kerrville, East Ce rral, Samuel Clements, Cuero, Floresville, Pleasanton, and Crystal City. Other members of the team are Jamie Wilson, girl’s singles, and Roger Rowinsky and Bar ry Moore, boy’s doubles. Jamie, Roger and Barry were defeated by the teams that went on to win championship honors. In his first game, Hal defeat ed Hahn of Fredericksburg, 6-0 and 6-0. Hal was matched a gainst Adams of Samuel Cle ments in the quarter finals and won 6-0 and 6-1. In the semi-finals, Hal de feated Park of Del Rio 6-0 and 6-1, and won the championship by defeating Bilderback of East Central, 7-5 and 6-2. Congratulations are in order to a fine athlete and dedicated coach for bringing the cham pionship to Crystal City High School. Commodities To Be Issued The Zavala County Commo dity Distribution office will dis tribute foods in Crystal City on April 14, 15, and 16, accord ing to Mrs. Oscar Rice, director of the program. Distribution day at La Pry will be April 21, and in Bates ville on April 22.
