Cross-Examined.—I rushed trout front room to Ashburn’s. I saw the live men distinctly. Ash-burn didn’t fire his pistol. He lighted his candle before they reached his room. At first there was rapping at all the doora. The men were masked as tar as I could see. Didn’t know any of them. I was sleeping by myself.Amanda Patter ton, sworn.—Men at doer demanded entrance. It was refused. Door was broken open. I was badly scared. All were masked bat one. One mask fell ofi as party was going out door. He caught it, bot it dropped again. Could not swear to any one. Thought there were about tilty men. Moon was not shining. During shooting I was in front room. Had teen sleeping in middle room. I ran to front room. It was crowded with men. The one from whom the mask fell said, “d—n you, il you tell on me I’ll kill you.” The mask fell | at the door.(Ashburn’s son, about 17, produced a black paper mask, recently cut, said to be the one.
