FrancesDOWS—Funeral services for Frances Marie Hess, 81, were held at the Abundant Life Chapel in Dows on April 4, at 11 a.m. Rev. Paul Mills officiated and burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Dows. Mrs. Hess died April 1, 1987, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.She was born at Marcus, la., on March 18, 1906, to William and Addie Imlay Mesecher. She received her education at Marcus, and on Jan. 21, 1921, she was married to Virgil Hess in Webster City.HessThe couple farmed until retiring in 1965, and then moved to Dows.Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Gardalen of Des Moines; three sons, Robert of Dows, Virgil of Des Moines and Richard of Cape Coral, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil on Jan. 13, 1965; three brothers, two sisters, a son, James, one grandson and a great-granddaughter.Elledge Funeral Home of Dows was in charge of arrangements.
