SAGE CHAPEL CONVOCATIONSunday, April 9,1972 *11 A.M.CHOGYAM TRUNGPA, RINPOCHE Topic: “TIBETAN BUDDHIST MEDITATION”Dean Sage SpeakerThe Venerable Chogyam Tningpa, Rinpoehe, is director of Tail of the Tiger Buddhist Meditation Center in Barnet. Vermont Bom in East Tibet, he was discovered at the age of fourteen months to be the eleventh incarnation of the Tningpa Tulku. He was raised to become Abbot of the Surmang Monasteries, and was ordained in the Kagypa Order. From the age of eight. Rinpoehe alternated the study of philosophy and meditation, and in his late teens, received the Khenpo degree lt;equivalent of Doctor of Divinity). When the Communists began to invade Tibet. Rinpoehe fled to India to continue the teachings of Buddhism There he accepted a scholarship to Oxford University. After five years of study, familiarizing himself with Western culture and psychology, he began teaching in the West He founded a meditation center in Scotland, and at the same time, published his first two books — his autobiography, Born in Tibet, and a collection of talks entitled Meditation in Action. In 1970. became to the U S and opened Buddhist meditation centers in Barnet. Vermont, and Boulder, Colorado.
