A record shattering number of votes were piled up in Hidalgo County's three contested independ ent school district elections Satur day while, the six uncasted races resulted in extremely light ballot ing Little interest was shown in “the McAllen election with the?three unopposed candidates polling ‘only 137 votes each Drafted some months ago by “4 committee of taxpayers, ” Aur brey Thomas, D. H. Motley, and W. E. Crawford are the new mem bers who will fill three vacancies on the local school board. M. F E. Stone, secretary of the board, said that the new members would probably assume their posts on the board at the next regular meeting Wednesday night. They succeed H. B. Glendenning, A. D. Dean, and A. A. Guerra. Weslace Heary Weelace stole the show in the contested elections when two can didates tied for a winning post on the board following a vote which set a five-year record. Polling 144 votes each, Walter Baxter, Jr. and Don E. Ransom tied for the third post on the school board. The two other winning candidates were R. R. Talbert, who polled 174 votes, and E. J. Em mes, who polled 201. Defeated can didates were A. L. Johnson, 100 votes, and H. J. Allen, 118 votes. Edgar Mitchell, a write-in, re ceived one vote Weslace political circles pre dicted that one of the two candi dates tied for a post on the board would withdraw in favor of the other within the next fewears. Saturday's election marked the heaviest Weslaco school district election vote in five years, during which time there has been no op position At Mission, S. P. Routh and L H. Ramey were elected to two posts on the board in one of the heaviest votes in that city's his tory. Routh pollled 449 votes while Ramey polled 418, Mrs. C. D. Ep pright, present member of the board, was the defeated candidate. She polled 241 votes. L. H. Marcell, secretary of the board, said that the total vote of 600 was unusually as in re cent years only 50 or 60 votes have been cast in a school district elec tion. At Edcouch-Elsa, Paul Jones and Don Graham won out over M. A. Shields and R. R. Hill by a two to N tabula tion of the vote was available. Little interest was shown in elec tions in the five other dis trics, including Pharr, Juan, Alamo, Donna, Mercedes, Edinburg and Hidalge,
