Mr. Bennett, the Montreal gentleman. Lately resident at a London hotel, who was found on the riverside at Rochford, near Southend-on-Sea, on Monday, in an un conscious condition, died at Rochford In firmary last night. Mr. Bennett, who has been incorrectly described as managing director of the Royal Marine Insurance Company, Mon treal, was connected with the Liverpool Royal Marine Insurance Company. There is no Canadian company. The Liverpool company has been established in Canada for fifty years. Washed by the Tide, Mr. Bennett had been staying at the Victoria Hotel, Northumberland avenue, since March 16th, and was last at the hotel on Saturday. On Monday some children playing on the banks of the Road, which is a tidal stream running into the Crouch, noticed a man lying on the bank, but they saw him to be a visitor taking a rest. During the day a yachtsman on the river also observed the man lying there. In the afternoon the tide rose, and the children then saw that the man was still in the same position, and that the water was creeping over his body. They raised an alarm, and when the body was removed, the water had covered the lower half. The unconscious man was taken to the workhouse, and was found to be sufferin from an apoplectic seizure, from whic he died as stated.
