A., MUSIC, ARTEthel Pairlamb, Editor.Glorious Tidings of the Missionary Convention at Detroit.Four Cornell College students were given the inestimable privilege of attending the National Missionary Convention at Detroit. Last Sunday evening, at the M. E. church, they gave us their report, and we felt the convention enthusiasm come upon us as we listened to their thrilling words of how men and women were carrying Christ’s love into all lands.Miss Emma Little told of the happy journey of our delegates , of the homes where they were entertained and welcomed as members of the family. She spoke of the large number assembled—the largest missionary convention ever held—of nations being bound together into one family by the love of Christ.Mr. Witzigman spoke next of the pledge of the Volunteer Bands,—of the change that had been made. Formerly it read “willing and desirous of being a foreign missionary,” while now we read “I am determined, if God so wills, to become a foreign missionary/' We heard of the many in our colleges who are pledging themselves for this noble service, and of some of our number who will go, while our hearts responded “God speed you,” and our lips almost formed the pledge as we thought of the need of more laborers. The need of women in this work, of educated medical missionaries was brought out by MissLon-anna Reeder.Mr. W. B. Batcheller pressed more urgently upon us the need of doinj something. He spoke of the suffering that is being endured all over the world because we have failed to send the gospel. Medical missionaries are espec'ally in demand because these countries have no doctors and sickness everywhere prevails. In order to drive away disease they must resort to torture. The closing service brought with it the good tidings that 52 of the number assembled there, will, this year, go and work in Christ’s vineyard as foreign missionaries. Not even a report can be given of these addresses, and the feeling which they aroused cannot be described.A chorus choir sang the appropriate pieces “Send the Light” and “The Whole Wide World for Jesus.” The influence of that convention is still going 011 through the report that came to us, because 111 my hearts determined they would do their part that we may have the “World for Christ in this generation.’’
