THE CASE OF OSCAR M, BATE.The Kingston Freeman sent a reporter(to Gardiner, Ulster county, to investigatethe Oscar M. Bate matter. It says therehas been no evidence of forgery presentedyet. He had been engaged in unfortunate speculations and got heavily in debt, but if he had remained and told his neighbors his exact situation, they thought so well of him that they would have helped him out. It is believed that he took no money with him. The Ellenville bank has lostnothing by him. The Huguenot bank atNew Paltz holds $2,500 of his paper secured by collaterals. If he could realizeupon all the notes he holds he could perhaps nearly pay his debts.
