vestigated the matter.OBITUARY.Jeremiali Lynch, died April 1,1S81, aged 35 years. He was bom in Ireland, but came to America when 11 years old,settling in Lynnfielil, MaSa., where ne remained some two years. In 1SG0 ho cams to Benton county, Iowa, where he engaged on a farm and also attended school until the breaking out of the rebellion. He enlisted in the 13 th. Iowa Infantry, and was a member of Company G, in which he served until the Close of the war, taking part in most of the engagements in which his regiment took part. Although a inert youth when he entered the service, being only fifteen years old, he was one- of the bravest of the brave, always where the battle was Ibo thickest and never hesitating when duty called him to endure hardships or encounter danger—a true and brave and fearless defender of the stars and stripes. After being mustered out of the-service he returned to Benton county and engaged in the study of law in the office of the colonel of his regiment, now J udge Shane, and was admitted to practice two \years subsequently. He commenced the practice of law'in Biairstown and secured an extensive business, being a good counsellor and an able advocate. In 1877 he formed a copartnership with Frank G. Clark and removed to Cedar Rapids, where he waa engaged in the pursuit of his profession until his death.Mr. Lynch was a man of no ordinary natural ability. Without any edu cation more'than was afforded by a limited attendance at public school, be pushed himself forward to the successful front in his profession, and was acknowledged throughout the state as among the stronger members of the bar, .‘He was a genial, jovial, light-hearted and : big souled man, a tme type .of a generous-hearted Irish rcaa—everybody’s friend - and every body his.friend.' In bis business relations witbhis fellow men he was the soul of honesty, the embodiment of true business interity. Generous, freehearted; jolly and true, “Jere” Lynch was esteemed by all who knew him. But, like too many of his type of manhood. poor JereJs convivial nature led him into excess in the use of strong drink, and the habit becam-? socon-■ finned and deeply settled that ho wastians. It is impossible to write a temperance article, or make a temperance speech, when a person comes fully to understand the iniquity of the liquor trade.
