mourning.A most Interesting nnd Instructive Ir^noti ! from the union of goodnru iuiiI truth is aym» holicnllv taught by nit net of Jacob. The narrative i% ui follows: n Ami Jncob arose cur)/ ill the morning, and took the stone which he had put for hit pillow, nnd not it up for a pillar, ami poured oil upon it. And Jncob vowed a vow, saving. “If God will be with mo nnd keep me In this way tbnt I go, and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put ou, po I come again to my Father'* bouue in peace, then ihnll the Lord ho iny God: and thin atone, which I have net tip for a pillar, ihnll be God's bouie. Now, all who read this narrative me ready to usk Why Jacob net up the atone, and poured oil upon it; and alio why. if Jacob should he led nnd clothed, nnd arrive at Ills Father's home in pence, that Hone would be God's house. And it is certain that no one can answer these tpiestions without the spiritual sense.— The stone denotes the divine troth. The stone cut out ot'thc mountain, which was to till the whole earth, won truth front the mountain of love! It was the Word from the Father, fly the stone under Jacob's Lend, we are taught that he had been resting or rei ving tipon God's word merely in his understanding alone; tbnt he had not really loved the truth. What a divine book, then, is Nature, when seen In the light of correspondence ? Hus much we there see to point us to heaven! How clear her demonstrations, and convincing her arguments ! How forcibly they first meet the senses, nnd then, by illustration, come borne to tlie soul, arousing out Inner consciousness, in adoration, gratitude, and praise, toour heavenly Father! All regenerations, all true delight, all heavenly peace, are emphnticnllv expressed in Nature's symbol*, nnd all from the union of goodness and truth. We are therefore taught in the moHt wonderful manner, hy the spiritual sense of the Word, through the use of these symbols, that we cannot move a single step towards heaven, without the union of goodness nnd truth in our souls. Therefore, to do anything whatever to prevent that union, I* to hurt the oil and the wine; for it is onlv by union In us that we can receive spiritual life from the Lord..... . ... I il._ 1
