He is a living, breathing Christian witness to his classmates and teachers—not afraid of scorn, ■ funny looks, or even put-I downs. He is a young man on I a mission: to save souls from I the fires of hell.Wearing slacks, shirt and I tie almost daily to class. David I Pugh really is the son of a 1 preacher man—Charles Pugh * Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church, Cottondale. David T looks like a preacher, acts and N talks like a preacher, and will /■ tell you that one day he is go-A ing to be a preacher: in fact, his H email address contains his mantle: preach or die. God !C* called him to be just that—a preacher man.The textbook that David carries daily is his Bible. It is the top book on the stack in every class. Noah Webster once said, “An education without the Bible is useless. If Noah could see today's educational efforts he would spout J that all the TAKS, TEKS. and 1 TASP scores in the world will k not matter a twitch if one re-f mains biblically illiterate. That i won’t happen to David. He has J found the secret to Iife: the One I in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden (Colossians 2:11), and ^ the One who will unlock His plans for this called-out one, 6 this son of a preacher man.David was bom on Oc-,d tober 26, 1987 to the Reverend Charles and Tina Pugh in Arkansas City, Kansas where his father was serving as a youth pastor. The family then moved to Weatherford where both parents taught school. Cottondale:sneeded a pastor and nine years ago the family of parents, two brothers, and two sisters settled into the community where they have ministered for the past nine years.Pastoring is all in the family as David's oldest sister, Darci, married a pastor and they now serve at a church in Detroit, Michigan. David's older brother. Jason, is a second year student in Bible College with a call on his heart to begin a church in Providence. Rhode Island. Once the bastion of Puritanism. Providence now totters as the least churched state. Stephanie, the youngest Pugh, has picked up a Bible study class at Springtown that David had started when formerly attending there. David now conducts a twice-weekly Bible Study at Paradise High School with an average of 15-20 students studying the religions and cults of the world. As for David’s plans to be a pastor, he remembers the call on his own life at the tender age of six, praying at a family altar to receive Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. By fifth grade this youngster knew that God had called him not only to preaching but also to themission field as well. In his senior year, the call to Africa has been so strong that he plans to apprentice at a church in Tanzania this summpr. By fall, he plans to attend Heartland Baptist College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he will pursue his dream of being a missionary-minded preacher man.Watching this young man interact with his peers reveals a deep abiding concern for his friends at church and school. His passion to love others as Christ loves them shows in his sincere smile and penetrating blue eyes, kind nature, and impeccable manners. Just talk to David,” his friends would say if someone has a problem— and they could just as easily sing the lyrics too:The only one who could ever reach me.Was the son of a preacher man,The only boy who could ever teach me.Was the son of a preacher man.Yes he was, he was, oh yes he was.Oh yes, David Pugh will make a wonderful preacher man.
