SLEEPY HOLLOW GOSSIP NAME OF SCHOOL PAPERLITERATURE CLASS OF THE SEVENTH GRADE ISSUES A SPICY PUBLICATION. DRAWINGS SHOW TALENT“The Sleepy Hollow Gossip,” volume 35, No. 1, issued by the literature class of the seventh tirade, of the Jackson public schools, Miss Bessie Blackmon teacher, is an inter-prising* school paper that has just made its appearance. The paper reflects credit on Miss Blackmon and the pupils under her care, the entire work showing ability, thought and skill.Miss Annie Lillian Jamerson is editor, Miss Marion Watkins assistant editor and George Johnson is art editor. The drawings by Mr. Johnson show talent of a high order. His drawings’ of Miss Katrina Van Tassel, the Sleepy Hollow school house, Ichabod Crane in need of a friend, and the house that caused Ichabod Crane to break one of the Ten Commandmends, are all clever.The entire publication deals with the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” as pictured by Washington Irving, and among the articles are a “History of Sleepy Hollow,” by Otis Ball; “Sad Death of Mr. Van Loot Bred,” by Hilda Davenport; “Description of Sleepy Hollow School House,” by Fred Howell; “A Midnight Adventure,” by Bailey Jones; “Description of the Headless Horseman,” by Mary Carmichael and several others. The paper contains jokes, gossip, editorials, advertisements. “The Wedding of Ketchum-Soakem” is cleverly written.This venture in literary effort is distinctly worth while, and should be the means o*f stimulating other | classes of the public schools, to the end that the Jackson high school may soon have a school annual.
